Lately, diets that deliver quick fat loss results, have been criticized as dangerous or ineffective for long term weight loss. But, the slow and ‘boring' type of diet is not for everyone. Is there an option for quick fat loss that can also deliver long term success?
The majority of diets on the market these days are basically focused on quick fat loss. This is because, for most people, losing weight naturally does not offer quick enough improvements to keep the dieter motivated. We live in an instant gratification society. What we needed is an efficient fat loss diet that offers ALL of the necessary ingredients to quickly, permanently, conveniently, and (most important of all) SAFELY eliminate fat. Its truly amazing how quickly the body reacts to digestive changes, and so it brings into question the need for starvation diets or ‘exclusive diets' (those that focus on extremely limited food options).
The key to losing body fat is to burn more calories than you consume, and although this fact is blindingly obvious, you would be amazed how many people lose sight of this when chasing the next miracle diet. However, if you over-restrict your calorie intake, you risk the body rebelling and holding on to its fat stores. Your calorific deficit should be slight, and where possible should be due to increased activity. So, if a good diet only restricts calories slightly - then how can we achieve the quick results that we want?
The answer is to eat cleaner and healthier choices of food. One of the most significant factors of cleaner eating is that such diets tend to be the most successful in the long term. Once your new lifestyle habits have taken root, then you are well on your way to lifelong weight control. When the quick fat loss phase is over, and you no longer tightly restrict you calories, then you will be left with good solid eating habits that will keep the fat off.
A point missed by many dieters is the fact that the calorie restriction is temporary. Once your weight is at target you don't continue to diet else you would eventually disappear!
The main components of a quick fat loss diet are the increased exercise and reduced food intake. This is sometimes combined with a ‘cleanse', and even supplements for fat burning. Well I won't say anything too controversial here about supplements, and cleanses, but I should point out that all these elements of a diet are part of the initial fat loss stage of the diet.
If your quick fat loss diet does not include cleaning up your food choices, then the weight will return once your diet ends. Similarly, you can do HIT training, pump iron, and take supplements all you like, but if you don't add some realistic physical activities into your lifestyle, then you'll be fat again in no time at all.
So, when selecting a suitable diet plan, please be clear in your own mind which components of the diet are temporary and which are expected to be part of a permanent lifestyle change. Iwould strongly advise against taking on any dietplan that offers fast fat loss, but where you cannot realistically envision yourself sticking with the lifestyle changes. If the diet demands cabbage soup for the rest of your life, or killer cardio workouts 7 days a week forever, then I suggest you look elsewhere.
The best diet plans, and there are many out there now, get you fast results combined with permanent but realistic changes in your eating habits.
Finally, it may be wise to stress that there are safe quick fat loss diets, and there are diets that are too fast. You should limit weight loss to 2 pounds per week. More importantly, you should be focused on fast fat loss and not fast weight loss. The only accurate way to measure progress is using fat calipers.
